uniball™ KURU TOGA DIVE, Mechanical Pencil

We bought this as a Chrismas present. Thought it seemed crazy to spend $100 on a pencil but if this was going to last him through his senior year and at least some of college. Its already not working and he's only been using it for 5 months. I'm going to try for warranty but I can't find anything on it.

This is wonderful all-purpose mechanical pencil for writing and and drawing shipped quickly and packed securely.

Went to special pains to find one and now, after a couple of weeks, its stopped working. Sounds like I am not the only one.

Really cool pencil and decent execution of design. I really like the auto dispense feature... when it works the right way. The issue comes when it slips. You see, graphite makes for a really good lubrication when powdered. The mechanism the pencil uses to hold and dispense the lead is the same design as any other mechanical pencil, just with the added layer of complexity that is the auto dispense. That being said, the design relies on friction to keep the lead in place. However, as the high spots on the pencil leads rub off on the mechanism, the lubricating graphite causes future leads to slip. So, if your pencil is letting the lead slip into the pencil, just remove the tip, remove the lead loaded into the pencil, depress the eraser cap down and blow air into the middle of the pencil to remove any powdered graphite. Not sure how long this keeps it dispensing for, though. I just now did this and it seems to work.
Also, solid machined aluminum was a nice touch.

Was super excited to finally get my hands on the legendary writing utensil that is all over every social media possible. Very disappointed when I received it. From the all plastic body, to the auto extending feature that works when it feels like it - I am quite disappointed. You'd think for something at this price point it would at least feel premium in hand, but not the case. Now I have a pencil with a cap, that I can't place the cap on the back of the pencil - because I have to click the pencil manually and you can't do that with the cap placed on the back of the pencil. Very very sad day for me. They say "you get what you pay for". I wish that were the case with this.
